EQUESTRIAN TEAM





On Friday 26th September 20 Riders took part in the Special Olympics East Midlands Equestrian Qualifying Event for the Nationals with riders from Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Nuneaton. 8 of these riders will be selected to compete in the Nationals which will be held in Abbey Park, Leicester in July 2009



The prizes were presented by the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Manjula Sood. ( The Special Olympics East Midlands athletes are her nominated Charity) The day was a great success mainly due to the hard work of the Special Olympics East Midlands Equestrian Group and their friends and families. Big thanks must go to Soar Valley Riding Club at Quorn - for letting us borrow their fields and for arranging such good weather! We will be meeting soon to select the 8 riders but I would like to thank all the Riders, their Leaders, Sidewalkers and Coaches for competing with such good spirit. I realise it will be disappointing for some of them not to be picked but please remember it is all about taking part and that there are many years ahead for you all. ON THE 9TH OF DECEMBER WE WENT TO THE BBC SPORT'S PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR AT THE NEC IN BIRMINGHAM. WE WERE INVITED TO A PRE SHOW RECEPTION WHERE I SAW ZARA PHILLIPS,SHARON DAVIES,LINFORD CHRISTLE,JILL DOULAS,CROFT,MINISH,MARK LAWRENSON,JOTHATHON PEARCE,DOMINIC CORK,HELEN MC ARTHUR,DICKIN BIRD, WHOSE AUTOGRAPHS WE GOT. WE SAT AT A TABLE WITH ALL THE CELEBRITIES AROUND US AND AFTER THE SHOW WE WNET TO THE AFTERSHOW PARTY. IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND WE HAD A LOVLEY EVENING.
